I probably told y'all this story before too. But please bear with me. Well, I worked for the first Female Black Owned Optometric Practice in our lovely state of Indiana! But she was from Oklahoma! She had a husband, Mike, now passed, that muh fuckah gave some sound advice! Well, it didn't hurt that he was an Esquire. Anyway...
It was during the time we were working together, we were close, I called her and told her,
'I'm calling and just want to thank you and Mike for everything that you've done for me.'
"You're welcome. Very much so. But...let me let you speak to Mike? Okay? Hold on?"
Mike gets on the phone,
"Yeah man what's wrong?" Mike asked.
'Nothing I was just thanking you and Doctor Jennings for all that you both have done for me.'
"Okay I see. Listen you're not going to do anything man," Mike said.
'What? I'm sorry?'
"Listen Meredith you know how long we've been married. And when Glo' gave me the phone and mouthed I need you to speak to Meredith. I knew something was up. Listen man? You're not going to do anything. How many people have you called?"
'Three. But just telling them how much I appreciated what they have done for me. You know?"
"Yes, I know....Meredith. Don't call a fifth. You're making these calls because you do care! Not the adverse?... We all right?" He calmly asked.
'Yes. Thank you!'
"Anytime."
We rang off in unison.
And here my ol Black ungrateful sorry broke muh fuckin ass still
